Installed copy is working using the Nouveau driver. Tried to switch by
just disabling the post-release updates entry in the 3rd party drivers
applet. Rebooted and same problem. This might be because I'd created
an xorg.conf in the process of trying to fix my problem. It still
listed the nvidia

Synaptics touchpad stops working
To manage notifications
As I can see, the simple activation of touchpad works for all of us with
the bug in version 1, without window movement/etc.
I have uncheckd disabled touchpad while typing but writing is a
nightmare like this.
Does anyone know if thee is any solution to be seen soon?

The flickering appears always for any pclk 20, independent of screen
resolution or refresh rate.
I could reproduce with 2 different boards: 945GME and 82945G/GZ.
On the first one I had to add newmodes forcing the pclk = 20 in order
to avoid the flickering:
