I had this happen only once so far. After I had been using the system
for some time, al the graphics suddenly became glitchy and my X.org log

I have a ATI Radeon HD 5450, and a newly installed, fully updated xubuntu
11.10. I cannot get dual monitors to work after installing the proprietary
driver. I've tried running the amdcccle program
1. From the menu, administrative mode: nothing happens at all (non-admin mode
does run).
2.
The driver that comes with Ubuntu, 11.10 or 12.04 doesn't seem to work very
well and is outdated.
Completely remove the Ubuntu supplied driver and install the v12.3
(3/28/2012) driver from

Same problem! Trying to use a Nvidia FX5200 (uses 173 driver).
I can not install 173 driver. I installed the current but after awhile my
resolution changed to 1024X768.

Hello!
I tried killing some processes but it didn't help. I also attatched gdb
to the Xorg process but gdb just hanged and wouldn't produce a
backtrace, even if I ran killall Xorg or killall -9 Xorg from
another ssh session. It seems impossible to stop the Xorg process once
it gets into this

Odd; well there's no evidence of crashes, freezes, or other common
problems which would trigger a report showing in your logs. Perhaps it
was a spurious glitch.
