Mh, actually the problem is related to both Unity should better handle the
case in which we have overlapping monitors showing only a panel.
However imho the system should avoid that this situation would happen.

Today it's pretty bad, 3 session crashes in around 30 minutes, can
happen while working with any application (today: Thunderbird, Nautilus,
once even while logging in).
I have a feeling that this happens with external LCD attached - can't
remember it happening while working with the 'on board' LCD
Would also like to confirm that Chris Bagwell's patch works for me. I'm
using 1.11.4 from Debian Sid and the patch didn't apply cleanly
(whitespace issue and started at 297 instead of 282), but after I fixed
that it works like a charm. Been missing this feature for a while :)
Thanks Crhis!

Many Thanks germulvey.
While technically this does not fix the bug. It has triaged it for me to
the point I have a working system.
I shall post in the related Ubuntu Forum threads this as a possible
short term measure to bypass the impasse the bug causes on installation.
I agree with Ilja that t
Xorg does not freeze, all hotkeys still work, even applications stay
responding as in they still accept mouse and keyboard-inputs. (e.g.
applications can still be terminated with alt+F4, tested by terminating
a running skype call while the screen was frozen, rhytmbox was also
still controlable)
