Thanks for the reply, this solved the issue..
Imho, I wouldn't say it's totally useless. Actually it would be good to
be able to change the treashold so that it's not sticking for ages at

Cheers!

The bad thing is those devices were working correctly with the previous
versions of Xorg... I think the problem is in the xorg thing and not
exactly in the driver... except that was a dormant failure never faced

Looking at the code, no intermediate .xkb file is created to disk; it's
passed directly from memory to xkbcomp.
Btw, if you want to experiment more directly, you can snag
ubuntu-12.04-dvd-i386.iso.torrent (or ubuntu-12.04-dvd-i386.iso) from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/12.04/release/ and
Unfortunately both xkm files are useless - they contain single us group
(xkbcomp foobar.xkm -xkb out.xkb).
Regarding the keymap file, in libxklavier:
if (xkl_debug_level 500) {
/* don't remove on high debug levels! */
Same effect on Thinkpad X61s (Intel Graphics Media Accelerator X3100).
Blank black screen with just mouse pointer visible after closing and
opening the lid back (no suspend necessary), happens maybe once in 20
times. Input works—i can move mouse pointer, also cursor changes when
over a text field

There's no need to copy the header file into the 3.4 kernel. You just
have the patch the nvidia driver to add a preprocessor directive that
removes that line if the kernel version is 3.4 or higher.
