@Andre
Come on, I am a regular user. I have no idea how to switch kernels. I
might find it on google, but I am not aware of consequences and if
something goes wrong I won't be able to roll back.
If the solution works, maybe it could be patched as a system update so
that everyone can apply it
Tomasz Ostrowski see #328 above, I am not new to computers but a novice to
Linux and I was able to do it. As a side benefit I am now confident using
Synaptic Package manager, It was the last thing I installed after removing
Ubuntu Software Center. I also did a system image using ReDO backup
if x or y 0, set them to 0 (and decrement with/height accordingly)
If it is possible in this context to have negative x or y, it is also
possible to have them larger than width and heigth by absolute value, so
that when decrementing width/height accordingly, width/height becomes
negative too.
@steve: It's not outside the realm of possibility that a single bug can
affect differing chipsets and video cards in different ways. Perhaps
some chipsets react worse than others. Has any progress been made?
Closed-minded thinking helps no one.

Hi Matt, could you do a quick test to see if Precise has fixed this
issue, as there is some Elantech touch support code merged after
oneiric.
Sorry, at the moment I don't have the time to put Precise back on the
machine and test
So I used to have complete system freezes as well. I used to think it
was tied to video card drivers, but then after several complete
reinstalls of Ubuntu 12.04 I found the cause of the problem, at least
for me.
I run a 64 bit AMD (1.6 dual core) laptop with Windows 7 and Ubuntu
12.04 dual
For me it freezes even in a VM by itself, with only Thunar, leafpad, and
a terminal window open.
