I'm going to guess that is related: I find with vmwareplayer v5.0.1
build-894247 in Ubuntu 12.10 that as soon as I move the mouse over a
vmwareplayer window and back again, it breaks the keyboard mapping in
Unity and gnome-shell. In both unity and gnome-shell, CTRL stops working

still a problem with 12.04 LTS with all updates. never see the issue in
12.10 though. I saw it today on a fresh install of 12.04, fully updated.

This isn't fixed for ivybridge in 12.04 (with all updates), still
tearing at the top of videos. It is fixed in 12.10's compiz though.

So, finally I managed it - and sorry, maybe this was not the same issue:
- After digging the logfiles, stopping lightdm and try to manually "startx" ...
- it seemed that there must be an lock from an older xsession
- nothing unusual in the"/var/lock/" and "/var/run/" directories

I have a Problem wich sounds linke hat:
- after an update/restart lightdm stops
- I saw only tty messages
After 2 reboots lightdm works, but now ...
- I can't login anymore (only as guest)
- the password is okay, because login at tty1 works
- /var/log/lightdm/x-1-greeter.log shows some messages ma
The problem went away (together with sluggish window movement) after installing
a fresh 12.10 ubuntu.

Indeed. I kill empathy and the issue goes away here too. It's been
happening since upgrading to 12.10.
empathy seems to be a resource hog period. It's regurally using WAY
more memory than I would expect an IM client to use.

have it.
