Black screen when booting
I am still having this problem even after adding 'acpi_backlight=vendor' to
grub cmd option, but now crash occurs less often.
This problem also occurs when brightness changes due to power on/off. In this
case(when frozen) if I remove or plug-in charger, brightness level changes but
nothing else

I reinstalled xserver-xorg-video-intel but unfortunately as the screen
freezes I am unable to use apport-collect start after the crash. I have
however got the Xorg.0.log.old which looks like it shows the problem.
I'll attach it, hope it helps.

Install the 12.04.2 kernel/xorg backport stack ('xserver-xorg-lts-
quantal' and it's depends/recommends) to get rid of most of the issues
on ivybridge and/or earlier intel.. closing as fixed.

Hmm, I think you have a mixture of bugs. That last one looks like rc6,
so appending i915.i915_enable_rc6=0 to your kernel command line should
hopefully improve system stability to the point where we can look at the

I just tested libxrandr 2:1.3.2-2ubuntu0.1 from the proposed
repo...nothing changed for me. But I think it's worth to mention, that I
seem to suffer from a slighly different Bug (just realised it myself).
Even when I log in locally on the machine, my kwin crashes.
Was the modified libxrandr2
I had a second freeze today. Now without power supply. In this situation the
system did not reboot after 10 minutes. So I had a hard shut-down.
It seems to me, that for my system kernel version 3.8.3 is more unstable as
version 3.8.2.

I seem to be seeing a very similar issue on 12.04LTS after taking the
latest update (everything was fine before that). I was getting
graphical corruption, the apport-gpu-error-intel.py crash report, and
the machine would hang.

I have enabled proposed-repository and installation is done
