@Simos: In your install instructions the apt-get line didn't work, so I used
dpkg -i xserver-xorg-video*deb to install the packages instead, and that seemed
to work, although the dbg packages needed to pull in some additional deps, but

I think this bug is not solved on 12.04 LTS. If it's a kernel bug, the
patch should be backported to the latest official 12.04 kernel and
delivered via normal software update.
Some people suggested for example to update to kernel v. 3.3.6 available
