Hi, it turns out that my DVD drive is malfunctioning. It can write DVDs
(sometimes at least), but can't read them. Using an external drive I
was able to liveboot to today's Trusty build. The issue with sleep mode
is still there.
I couldn't get my wireless working or get Trusty to shut down norm

My regular setup is a laptop with an external monitor and when I have
the external monitor connected, I want to disable to built-in laptop
screen.
After upgrading to 13.10, my previous display configuration stopped
working.
However, I was finally able to get it similar to before by:

After installing linux-image-3.13.0-8-generic the problem is back
one difference: it now boots to desktop "without problem" but apport is
triggered due to the "Microcode not responding" error

This CPU consumption bug appears to be resolved in the newer versions of
x.org. I've switched to xfce and can't speak to KDE's performance
anymore, but I suppose it is OK to remove this bug report after all this

Well no hangs for now! I downloaded the 3.13.2 kernel, applied the patch
again and compiled it. From now on I'll start using this instead of the
3.13.1.
The difference I might experience compared to when running without the
patch, but I'm not sure at all, if there is a difference it is quite
small

I don't agree that this is an [fglrx] issue. I thought so at the
beginning, but it happens even on a clean install before fglrx drivers
have been installed at all, so long as the i915 is loaded with UXA accel
via xorg.conf. Surely that means it's an i915 issue.

Your downgrade to 2:8.960 worked flawlessly until this is fixed. Terminal
lines now respond as they always have. Same errors with update as everyone else
so no need to C&P mine.
ATI 4870 card. Kernel 3.2.0-58. Ubuntu 12.04.4. amdcccle works. Fans slowed
down.

Any ideas what changed? I guess a library update didn't take effect
until the reboot, or another enviromnental issue (perhaps something like

I could fix this problem by removing xserver-xorg-video-* except
ati/radeon/modesetting.
Now I can reproduce the bug by installing xserver-xorg-video-vesa, so I suppose
this is caused somehow by incorrect module initialisation. Looking at
Xorg.0.log doesn't give me a hint, though.

Would you be able to do a bisect between 3.7 and 3.8?
Another user identified commit 4f6029da58ba (in bug #67878) which came
in between 3.7 and 3.8 -- perhaps you have the same issue? It's a
different card, so might be different... a bunch of stuff changed
between 3.7 and 3.8.

I started having Xorg server crashes from kernel 3.8.0-35 on wards. Up to
kernel 3.7.10 I had ho crashes after suspension (that is until Ubuntu Quantal
Quetzal no crashes, from Ubuntu Raring Ringtail I stared having crashes).
