top shows Xorg using around 100% cpu and xfsettingsd using around 10% during freeze. I stopped xfsettingsd using quit program in all settings/session and startup/session and saved the session for next startup. Once xfsettingsd had stopped freezes ceased but now only have basic window theme, icons

I found out, that in my case its a problem with suspend-hybrid mode. I had a configuration that used kernel suspend-hybrid, if the suspend button was pressed. Suspend to RAM and Suspend to Disk seem to work, only suspend-hybrid leads to a blank screen after resume. -- You received this bug

I have some new information. Apparently, I tried a different external monitor with the displayport and the same 2560x1600 resolution and the laptop worked just fine. I can run xrandr or unity-control-center while the monitor is connected and there are no issues. The monitor that does not work
