Yes, I confirm this to be an issue with swapping. Disabling swap resolves the issue of garbled graphics at the memory peak level. If you're running a computer with enough ram, the swap partition can permanently be disabled by adding swapoff -a to /etc/rc.local This is merely just a workaround.

I get a similar compiz error on amd64. In my case, booting 3.16.0.6 kernels or before work fine. Booting amd64 3.16.0-7, -8, -9, -10 kernels on the same install the desktop runs but compiz hence unity do not. Booting the newer .iso the live session fails the same way. Follow through with the
