First, you have to add drm.rnodes=1 to the kernel parameters:

Then, you need to make sure you (the user) are in the video group: sudo usermod
-a -G video user
Ok, I also have A09 released 2014-06-26. The other thing I did was to
install the latest Nvidia drivers in Windows, but I did not think this
updates any firmware in the graphics card?
After that, I have almost not seen this issue anymore, but maybe once.

I think Adriano's problem (shown in a youtube video) is different than
the one I reported.
I just tried booting the live CD of Lubuntu 14.04.01 on the machine
(which still uses the version of xserver-xorg-video-intel that works
(before the system update), and it boots to the desktop with no
ASUS X200LA-CT012H
debug options in grub that fix the problem:

Hi guys,
My laptop touchpad only works as left/right button and moving around. No
other features (scrolling, ..) are working.
I'm running Ubuntu 12.04.5 and xserver-xorg-input-synaptics
1.6.2-1ubuntu1~precise2.
In System Settings Mouse and Touchpad there is no Touchpad
Possibly just a bad card. I see the same freeze and corruption with
fglrx-2:14.201-0ubuntu2. I've swapped out the video card and will see if
it still happens (it's different a hardware configuration, but just in
case).
Is there a way I can close this out ?
