My computer is not buggy and this Bios is working well since Xubuntu 10!
This an Ubuntu bug! I discovered, that a fresh generated xorg.conf
solves my problem. In Xubuntu 14.10 I didn't need a xorg.conf, but now.
Somehow Ubuntu didn't load the right driver module for my graphics card.

I was able to fix this on my ubuntu 14.04 installation using the vivid
kernel (3.19). I ran:
sudo apt-get install linux-generic-lts-vivid
did a reboot and the touchpad seems to be working now.
Other people seem to be able to solve this problem by using a newer kernel too:

I have attached a USB Capture file (standard pcapng format, can open in
wireshark or so) of the mouse doing:

By the way, it seems that there are other issues with the ALPS
trackpoint which is used with the E550. With the trackpad working ok,
the trackpoint "stick" is slow and the configuration options for speed
and acceleration seem to not be available.

After some investigation, I have come to believe the problem is that AMD
doesn't support kernels higher than 3.16.x, and I'm running 4.0.4.

Brian is right.
The version the duplicate flag was linked to affected the nvidia-331 and it is
fixed there only.
Currently this bug is still present in the 173.14.39 package of the
legacy nvidia drivers and is not fixed.
The compile process stops with these errors in the

There is already a patch available -thanks to Alberto - but it just
seems not to be backpropagated into 14.04 for whatever reason.

At around line 213 of that file I pasted the "#include
