I have this problem on Ubuntu 15.04. I had it on previous versions of
Ubuntu as well. I did a clean install of 15.04 so the bug is still
present in 15.04 (not a remnant of the earlier versions). See attached
screenshot. I've seen the missing characters occur in Nautilus and in
the gray bar at the

If I play a video, it continues for a while then stop and the screen is black
in Dragon Player. In most of time, I'll fall to emergency mode.
Note: I've a problem. I can only login through systemctl defaul command in the
emergency mode.

nothing showing in logs. System mostly wakens up again after a minute or
two.
I have tried switching to Cinnamon desktop rather than Unity, no freezes

I'm not sure. After changing rendering backend to OpenGL 3, I boot to emergency
mode. To continue boot, I run: systemctl default. I returned it to OpenGL 2,

I'm using a Dell Latitude E6540 laptop with hybrid graphics (Intel HD + Radeon
HD8790M).
Using DRI_PRIME=1 to offload to the discrete GPU causes different problems,
from simple program crash
to complete system hang (i.e. no ctrl-alt-F1, no external ssh access, only

Thanks for getting back and apologies for the delay in responding.
I downloaded and ran the ISO as a live image, but it made no difference.
The cursor still flickers and disappears, sometimes for several seconds.
It seems to happen when there is background activity and it make the system

its movement is unstable. I mean the two spinning parts of a circle at
