Confirmed I was unsuccessful with 304.131 and 304.132 but I just
finished installing 304.134 on my 4.8.0-30-generic kernel, no more login
loop and I can get back onto NetFlix.

still had to uncomment the "#PATCH[1]="buildfix_kernel_4.3.patch" line
in dkms.conf and run 'dpkg-reconfigure nvidia-304' to get rid of the
mtrr-add and mtrr-del references so it would load, but the speed problem

Hello Everybody.
At this dead keys problem, I stumble upon now - however, so far, just in
LibreOffice. Ever since a few weeks, I work at a fresh install of
Kubuntu 16.04 - along with KDE Plasma 5.6.5, installed via the Kubuntu
ppa backports. Dead keys work in all applications except LibreOffice -
@skgary, as for `1`, as I've said, just do:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-304=304.134-0ubuntu0.16.10.1
Or:
sudo apt-get install nvidia-304
(it'll do the same as 304.134-0ubuntu0.16.10.1 is the newest version
available to you).

1. Either to install the newest version (134) from PPA. It's ok to try
it. (Although, you said it doesn't work for you? Or it's just because
wrong command line?)
2. Or to try quite dirty way of installing packages-for-16.04 into
@skgary, yes, within 16.10 package versions are different.
You have:
(1) Either `sudo apt-get install nvidia-304=304.134-0ubuntu0.16.10.1`
(or just `sudo apt-get install nvidia-304` as it's currently newest
version available to you) to install the newest version (134).
(2) Or try manually

OK I did
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:graphics-drivers/ppa

Now I have nvidia-304 304.1343-0ubuntu0 showing up in Synaptic
I don't have
nvidia-304 304.1343-0ubuntu1
nor is version 131 showing up
In Software and Updates I selected Main Server and reloaded
