so after a reboot i've launched gnome chess from launcher, the app
started (without Xmir) and worked great. but then i closed the app and
the second time it tried to launch with Xmir but failed to load. (not

are very unstable. I noticed that my kern.log includes the following

This bug appears with several variations on a theme on several sites.
The most common workaround of adding nouveau.nofbaccel=1 to
/etc/default/grub as a kernel command line didn't work for me.
However
nouveau.noaccel=1
Has resulted in a stable PC for the last 24 hours which is a 3 year
record!
nouveau.noaccel=1 does seem to be the workaround for lockup bugs in
nouveau with Nvidia graphics cards. 24 hours stable.
As this is a regular repeatable issue on my setup, if any developer
would like more detailed logging please ask.

I was wrong. What I was reproducing is a different crash with large FDs
not specific to Xmir.
I'm really not sure how to reproduce your crash or if your use case is
valid.
Only one theory: the logic for the -fd client connection is executed
early before Xmir has started properly. We can try movin
