Quick update: I just rebooted after installing the .deb files provided by AMD and now unity won't log me in any more. :( I boot with option 'nomodeset' and reach the unity login screen. The I try to log in, then the screen goes blank, and then I am back to the login again. Expected: Desktop

Public bug reported: The command line that cause this was: sudo apt-get install lib32gcc1 libc6-i386 dkms I downloaded AMD's latest and tried to install them. Upon running those installers, something with fglrx crashed in the background and caused apport to appear. Not quite sure how and why
