Same situation described by miwait00, I'm running an Nvidia GTX 1050Ti
with nvidia-384 driver, here's my vlc log, codec details and system

This also affects me, running on X. When I run
gparted
I get prompted to insert the password, then the terminal says
Unit -.mount does not exist, proceeding anyway.
and it just hangs there.
