el_smurfo: You could also try having a read over https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Bugs/Lucidi8xxFreezes The issue is (as stated on the wiki) that support for this particular graphics adapter is poor. Different workarounds will work for different people, and there is no one workaround for all (yet).
