I might add that plugging in or plugging out the USB cable causes GDM to exit without saving and restart. In Karmic, the Xserver just used to freeze occasionally or cause text on screen to be selected without releasing the selection mechanism. The only way out of this was to unplug the Wacom tablet, but at least it didn't cause X to crash. Now it crashes, quits the session and returns the user to the login screen. It seems to be indiscriminate in when it happens, in that I haven't noticed an increase in system load for example. However, every time I pull out the cable or plug it back, X crashes.
