Public bug reported:
After upgrading to 1.11.4-0ubuntu10.6 the screen remain black. Start
screen worked, but when X was supposed to take over, nothing happened.
Downgrading to xserver-xorg-core xserver-xephyr and xserver-common to
1.11.4-0ubuntu10.5 fixed the problem.

nice that this problem has been fixed in the nvidia package, but i
believe that this really is a initramfs bug, it simply ignores the
blacklist status of modules, see LP: #815803
