The workaround proposed by Olie works (verified on MAXDATA Pro 5000X). Blacklisting intel i915 driver is the only way to go, until a newer and working version gets released. This should be the default behavior of ubuntu 10.04. I've read somewhere that this approach was already adopted in earlier
