Before booting, disconnecting the wireless USB mouse and keyboard (comes with
Packard Bell OneTwo), X boots up without problems.
When I connect the Chicony USB Wireless HID receiver X crashes immediately.
This is consistently reproducible.
Check the Xorg.log for:

Right after upgrading to 12.04, the display manager failed to start. This
turned out to be due to a crash of /usr/bin/X.
I've downloaded the latest driver from AMD's website
amd-driver-installer-12-4-x86.x86_64.run for hardware ATI mobility Radeon HD
4500.
