The attached patch will prevent lxdm from starting in runlevel 2 (and 1,
don't know why lxdm is supposed to start in RL 1). One has to edit their
/etc/init/*dm.conf for the desktop manager they're using.
But I agree with James here: there's no reason to start X11 in runlevel
2. Just because

I've put the logfiles on the URL above, but attached it now to the
report. Note that I don't have lspci -vvnn but lspci -vvv only, will

I couldn't see this anywhere else reported, so here it goes:
I'm unable to start X11 on this MacBookPro [0] with a current Karmic
installation. I did not succeed with Jaunty either, so I moved on to
Karmic. IIRC xorg is using the proprietary nvidia driver as a default.
