Thanks Timo, I'll give it a try.
btw, I always wanted to learn how to make and mantain packages. so if nobody
is assigned to packaging the calibrator I could do it with a little
guidance

Merged duplicated bugs into this one, we all are affected by the same
issue:
Since ubuntu 10.04 deprecated hal and moved X's config to
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/ calibration scripts are broken.
Tried the patch suggested by hackeron here:
Take a look here https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-
evtouch/+bug/557566
Now the config file is located at
/usr/lib/X11/xorg.conf.d/10-evtouch.conf. put the values of you fdi file
there and it should work, this is mine for a 7touchsc...@1024x768:

Same here, can't calibrate my touchscreen and is useless with 90º degree
rotation between image and touch. on karmic I overided it by setting ccw
on the fdi file but is no longer avaiable.Where can I manually rotate it
until the calibrator is fixed?

I have the same issue , which I reported on Bug #426340:
After a lot of trial and error I figured out that calibration points order is
different between driver and calibraton program.

Found the problem!
calibration points order is different between driver and calibraton program.
For the calibration program xy0,xy1,xy2 belongs to upper-left,upper-center and
upper-right but for the driver 0.1.2 belongs to upper-left,middle-left and
bottom-left
