currently i turned KMS off to work around this problem, however i'd like
to go back to KMS when it becomes possible (to have a nicer boot splash,
not 640x480 but full
to make it clear, for me as well the colors are OK on DVI. so this is
really the same problem that I have. but i can't use DVI because in DVI
display flickers like crazy (probably an unrelated bug). at least with
VGA+UMS the computer is usable.
with this bug, the computer is almost impossible to
with the latest lucid as of today, i have to turn off KMS to have normal colors
in VGA. In UMS, it works OK.
I'm hoping the latest patches posted on the freedesktop bug, but not yet taken
by ubuntu, would fix the problem in KMS mode for me.

I think if it's not going to be fixed on time for 9.10 release (and it
looks that way) then probably a series of ATI r200 cards should get
blacklisted for 3d effects. Ideally they should be blacklisted only for
resolutions about 1024x768 if possible, since it seems that 1024x768 is
the maximum
for resolutions about 1024x768

Well I turned on KMS and that also fixes the problem for me, and I don't
get artifacts however I got a freeze relatively quickly (using AGP as
well). Maybe I would have gotten it without KMS using 3d as well, I
don't know because I never used 3d for long, since the desktop is black.

Using the ATI driver. I manually enabled KMS to workaround 413259.
I also specified AGP4x instead of the default 8x to workaround a freeze that I
got in 8x (don't know if that was enough yet).
3d effects appear to work fine except for cube switching.
When I use the cube
OK I noticed something very funny now.
When a window spans on two desktops, in the cube it can happen that on one
desktop the contents of the window is visible and the title bar is not, and the
other half of the window in the other desktop, the contents are not visible and
the title is.

Yes I can confirm the bug still happens with the PPA you gave.

At first when I installed those packages X crashed when I turned on 3d but I
realized it's because it was still using my self-compiled libdrm that I used to
test old versions of mesa.
