Screen blanks to just mouse cursor, VT still works

This does not appear to be a bug in compiz/unity as doing a DISPLAY=:0
unity --reset and switching back to VT7 does not improve the
situation.

Restarting gdm, however, did resolve the problem.

Adding the following to the kernel command line from the CD bootloader
should do the trick (assuming you have an ethernet connection):
d-i preseed/early_command string chroot root apt-get -y install openssh-
server
Alternatively, you can add break=bottom to the kernel command line, then:

Please do not set the priority on your own bugs.
This sounds like a nouveau or xorg bug. It's definitely not a ubiquity
bug as ubiquity doesn't start in the Try Xubuntu without installing
option until *after* you've gotten to the desktop and clicked on it.
Moving to xorg.

It is not the job of the installer to determine a suitable resolution,
or prompt for one when such a choice cannot be made automatically. This
bug could be fixed by implementing the live CD portion of BulletProofX.
Moved to the xorg package.
