works, so my idea that this was only for non-numeric values can be
discarded, it seems to only affect output TV-1

One more thing, I was previously using the nvidia driver on 10.10 that's
no longer supported on 11.04, so I'm not sure if this bug existed on
10.10. I can do a parallel install if needed to check if it's a

There's a lot of talk about this in many bug reports(#446412, #394273,
#286001), and as far as I can see, with kms enabled, gdm is the one switching
resolutions, xsplash is right, gdm messes it and then once it's done X returns
to the original res set at startup.
