provided everything requested in comments 8 through 11. Otherwise, I've
given up for now and am going to keep using nvidia's drivers and may try
again when Ubuntu
Still not working for me. I tried quite a few different options with no
luck. I have exactly the same experience on Fedora 12. On both the
nvidia drivers work fine.

Here's the three files you requested.
I tried you suggested Modeline, but still have same issue.
Note that I'm running this off the livecd this time and there is a bunch of
junk in the dmesg related to the cdrom drive.

I forgot to add that the livecd is Lucid Beta 1.
Also I tried out Fedora 12 and it has the same problem.

I've got nouveau running on a 9500GT card, but having a problem using a
Modeline to create a resolution setting for my monitor. My monitor is
