A simple workaround for this card is to lower the color depth to 16 as
suggested in the xorg.0.log. This can be done by adding the following
section to the /etc/X11/xorg.conf

Section "Screen"
  DefaultDepth 16
  Identifier "Default Screen" 
EndSection

Tested this with resolutions upto 1920x1080 it works fine, the reduced
color depth is not noticeable on most LCD panels.
