No, Compiz crashes: the window lose decorations, Unity sidebar
disappears... LibreOffice and the other running programs continue to
work. I've to restart Unity from the command line.

I had no time to make the test yet, but I am now able to circustantiate
the issue: crash and freezes only occur when LibreOffice is started
opening a precedently created document! Starting from a new document -
or from the LibreOffice loader - and then opening the existent file, all
works flawlessy
Can I test frome live release? I cannot upgrade this computer, it's the
one on which I work...

Thank you, philinux, I followed your indications and all is now fine. I
had to remove the linux-image metapackage: I'll reinstall it at the
next kernel update.
