I know your mean.
I can reproduce your phenomenon. The 640x480 also can normally display.
When I setup to 832x624, it will occur a 4cm black margin on the left of the
screen. So I think the mainly reason is the difference between screen panel.

1. An 1024x600 (16:9) screen is properly diplay (through setup the VGA/LVDS
AUTO menu), it can display the 16:9 and 4:3 screen, so I confuse whether it is
a bug.

Through compare the parts of xf86ChangeGammaRamp between VESA driver
and Geode driver, in judge the xf86_crtc_supports_gamma(pScrn), the
