Thank you Christopher, it ended up being a misconfiguration. Unchecking
the Disable touchpad while typing checkbox has returned the clickpad
to a much more useable state: two-finger scrolling works, two-finger-
click for right-click works, click-and-drag works. I am confident I can
configure the
