This should be the Xorg.log from my attempt to boot 3.10.0-1.8 with the
broken nvidia kernel module. There was nothing listed in either
kern.log nor syslog indicating why or what happened.

I was humming along and appeared to be fine, then the system froze
completely and forced me to power-cycle to get it to come back to life.
On doing so, booting into the current 3.10 (3.10.0-1.8) kernel for
Saucy, there was no nvidia driver, and an error in the xorg logs sayin
After trying (manually installed nvidia-experimental-310 because jockey
offers nothing on this system with this card), I get no desktop.
Jockey does not offer any drivers for this card. With Nouveau, compiz and
software rendering are not supported:

[Lenovo E525] Switching video modes causes severe corruption / can't
display larger

To reproduce, install 12.04 LTS onto a Lenovo E525 with the ATI video card.
Run the script /usr/share/checkbox/scripts/xrandr_cycle
After the first few larger modes, video will become horribly corrupted
and may not recover once the script tries to restore the original mode.
Also, it's not nVidia dependent as first thought, as this occurs on
systems without nVidia cards installed. The only fix for this seems to
be rebooting, since CTRL-Alt-Bksp is disabled by default now. (or
sending a sighup to X, but who knows to do that?)

Noticed this on multiple Lenovo systems and some Dells too. Steps to
recreate:
Boot precise.
Do some work for a while (maybe 15 minutes maybe longer)
close the lid
open the lid
when system resumes, the desktop may be frozen...
This doesn't happen every time I close the lid, but seems to occur
I've also noticed this on other Lenovo machines like the Edge 13 (7450).

This is the first time I've used the Nouveau driver as this is really
the first time I've felt it good enough to use full time (I haven't
tried it since 10.04). But now that I've done a brand new install of
Precise on my Alienware M15x with the nVidia GT240m GPU, I'm running
Yikes... somehow I completely overlooked updating this.
Anyway, at some point (not sure when) and update did indeed resolve this
issue. Unity seems happy, though the whole system seems a little
sluggish (but that's to be expected on a first gen Atom with only 1.5GB
RAM shared between video and CPU

Ran certification stress tests over night on the Thinkpad Edge 11
(6817). At some point during the night, Xorg segfaulted and when I got
in this morning, I discovered the system in this state. Not sure what
caused the issue, but there is a trace in Xorg.0.log.

Doing cert testing on the T420. With the nouveau driver, external VGA
and DisplayPort video is non-functional. There is no proprietary nvidia
driver available to try with. So, there is effectively no external
video on the T420 with Oneiric.

Doing cert testing on a Vostro 3750. The Intel graphics card is
currently in use. When I plug an external monitor into the VGA port on
this machine, the system sits for many seconds before compiz crashes and
