Just want to report that I have this problem as well on an HP 2740P running 11.10 with kernel 3.2.0-11
It only just recently started to happen (possibly in conjunction with enabling the oneric-proposed sources (however, disabling it and running apt-get update / apt-get upgrade did not revert the problem). Whatever I can provide to assist, please let me know. I can say it is quite repeatable that the mouse will not freeze until the first time that I use the 'super' key to launch the Unity search panel. After that the mouse freezes. Opening a terminal and typing: synclient TouchpadOff=0 Fixes the problem and it does not seem to reoccurr.
