I too have removed the Nvidia proprietary driver for now and have seen massive improvements in performance. The only drawback is that sound doesn't play on an external monitor using a HDMI cable - but apart from that everything appears perfectly functional. On May 15, 2012 4:35 AM, TheBigW

It seems that things are better with the 295.49 release but still not back to normal - for example, opening a new tab in gnome-terminal takes two or three seconds to complete whereas before such an operation was instantaneous. I don't think this is fixed yet. -- You received this bug
