Public bug reported:
I am seeing this bug where right click dialogs, menus, notifications etc
are popping up behind other windows. See the screenshot as an example.
It mostly doesn't happen until I start Amarok, which is a QT app, but
that doesn't always make it happen either.

After booting to gdm, there are a few flashing underline style cursors

In addition, the ctrl-alt-Fn keys don't switch VTs. Logging out and

Apparently at random my screen will just lock up (although sometimes the
mouse pointer will still move). It is exacerbated by using Google
Hangouts and Skype but is not limited to using them.
The Xorg logs shows a load of errors and a stack trace.

For me it's happening very randomly. I removed the splash kernel option

Some days my machine starts up fine, other days it'll hit failsafe-x

Lucid Kubuntu: garbled splash screen and random failures to
Hi Steve, thanks for replying so quickly!
A couple more data points for anyone looking at this:
1. I spoke to someone on #ubuntu-x who said that failsafe mode happens because
when X tries to start it already sees an X server running (I confirmed this by
looking in the X log).
2. I don't get

It's a little better in lucid but not much. I turned off the vsync
option which helps the most, but Xorg is still taking far too much CPU
when the machine is basically idle. I've got a new more powerful laptop
(with an i5) so it's hard to directly compare, but Xorg is constantly
using ~2-3%.
Based on that I'd change the title of this bug, or perhaps make it
invalid? It's xserver-xorg-video-intel's performance that basically
sucks, I don't get this problem on a machine with an nvidia card.

Same here, although I use Kubuntu.
I'm not sure if it's an Xorg bug or plasma bug, because top says:
