Updated system this morning 31st Mar 8:00 am (UTC+10) and all of above behavior is now fixed. No app crash, no PGTBL error etc. Only problem is switching from X to TTY and back again garbles the X screen on tty8 - but recovers after some seconds and rewrites of screen by moving
