Public bug reported:
I installed the NVidia driver by using Ubuntu's jockey app
(automatically popped up by Ubuntu). The next reboot was failed to start
X and I was no longer able to use the laptop. This is an Asus K42JV
laptop with NVidia GT 335M.
As a workaround I deleted the /etc/X11/xorg.conf
Today I upgraded the packages and now the fonts are working again:
kov...@nagy:~$ dpkg -l | grep tormod | awk '{print $2 " " $3}'
libdrm-intel1 2.4.13~git-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty
libdrm-radeon1 2.4.13~git-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty
libdrm2 2.4.13~git-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty
libgl1-mesa-dev 7.7.0~git2009091
r...@nagy:/home/kovzol# uname -a
Linux nagy 2.6.28-15-generic #49-Ubuntu SMP Tue Aug 18 18:40:08 UTC 2009 i686

And sorry, on root run I get this detailed VGA information:

Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (

And sorry, the VGA related output of "lspci -vvnn" (first I thought you
need "lspci -wnn" and it didn't work, so I used "v" instead of "w", but
now I can see it was "vv" :-).
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation 82945G/GZ
Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:2772] (rev 02)
I did an upgrade:
kov...@nagy:~$ dpkg -l | grep tormod | awk '{print $2 " " $3}'
libdrm-intel1 2.4.13~git-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty
libdrm-radeon1 2.4.13~git-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty

libgl1-mesa-dev 7.7.0~git20090911.a79eecb9-0ubuntu0tormod~jaunty
libgl1-mesa-dri
Now I'm in a hurry, so I cannot reproduce the problem. Until then, here
are some outputs, and yes, I also use xorg-edgers, as it can be seen
below. (Thanks, Bruno!)

Public bug reported:
I did a normal update/upgrade on 2009-09-09 and when I restarted my
computer on 2009-09-10, almost all letters disappeared in X. This is
more or less documented on
http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=7931196&posted=1#post7931196.
