Just happened to me after 137 days of uptime on my Acer Aspire 5570-2607 laptop, when trying to open Totem to play an audio file (probably the visualization triggered it, compiz was enabled too). Kernel is 2.6.31-15 in Ubuntu 9.10, video is: 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation
