I am having the same problem with ubuntu 17.10 and 6800TX graphics card.
Everything was working. After some updates, I can not log in anymore.

Updates continued and the picture changed. Now I can not get in any way.
Start with cd-live and everything works fine. Start the installation and
everything happens normally. Restart the PC and the login screen
appears. I enter the password, press enter and ... freeze! Nothing else
is possible.

I have a PC with a nVidia GeForce 6800XT graphics card. I installed
ubuntu 17.10 and have had many problems with crashes and freezes. After
