Ok. While logging out and back in did nothing, restarting fixed this
problem. Still, it would be good to know why it didn't work until I
restarted.

I got this crash report when resuming after testing suspend. I didn't
notice any problem--suspend and resume went without a hitch. I'm on
Lucid Alpha 3 with the latest updates.
ProblemType: Crash
Architecture: i386
Chipset: i915g
This bug seems to occur when surfaces between 1009 and 1024 pixels in either
width or height are drawn. See this bug for reference:

[i915] Major performance regres
Oops, sorry about that. My System Monitor wasn't working for a while.
No, I'm not seeing 100% CPU on Xorg--in fact, CPU seems to be more or
less unaffected by this performance regression. Let me know if you need
anything else.

Status: Invalid
There was an update 2 days ago that included a patch to fix this for
intel drivers (I have intel graphics). Perhaps you still have the
problem because you have ati graphics, rather than intel.

I installed the Karmic beta on my laptop, and performance is now very
choppy. In particular, Gnome-Do's "Docky" and compiz effects are
extremely choppy.
In Jaunty, I was able to fix this by adding 'Option "MigrationHeuristic"
