Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
Steps to reproduce: 1) Install Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1 AMD 64-bit optimized build on a GeForce (maybe any NVIDIA?) 2) Install either of the video drivers that Ubuntu suggests (NVIDIA accelerated graphics driver version 173 or version 185) 3) Reboot Expected Results: Ubuntu reboots and everything loads just fine Actual Results: Ubuntu boots only the command-line on a black screen instead of X Extra Information: I know and can vouch for the fact that (version 185 of the graphics driver works great on Ubuntu 9.10) There is a newer graphics driver available that requires a complicated manual install. I have not tried it, but it might not break X, like versions 173 and 185. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- Installing video drivers for GeForce 8300 on Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha 1 AMD 64-bit optimized build breaks X on reboot https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/504682 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu-X, which is subscribed to xorg in ubuntu. _______________________________________________ Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat Post to : ubuntu-x-swat@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~ubuntu-x-swat More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
