Glad I found this bug
I think that the best course of action is to append "gksudo" to
"/usr/bin/nvidia-settings" in the Main Menu entry for the NVIDIA X
Server Settings.
Is there a way I can help resolve this at all? I imagine it wouldn't be
hard to fix.

Well, to be honest with you, I think that it should handle this particular
situation by treating the quote character as a quote character. I fully
expected to be able to paste the chunk of text above into xorg.conf by
sudo gedit /etc/X11/xorg.conf
clicking the last line
and pressing control V.
Please add the lines
Section “ServerFlags”
Option “DontZap” “false”
EndSection
to your xorg.conf and reboot your system.
In this situation, X will not start when you boot, and will tell you
your xorg.conf is corrupted and needs to be repaired (or something similar)

I absolutely agree with you.
I look at the situation like this,
linux, in all of its various flavors, are free. Who am I to complain
when something I got for free doesn't work 100% right all the time.
If theres a better solution to this issue, or any others.. by delivering
