This system is not using the i915 chipset - this is a virtual machine
running on top of Microsoft's Hyper-V hypervisor, which uses a generic
VESA graphical device. Is there a different /sys/kernel entry I should
be looking at instead?
The dmesg output in #2 is from when the X subsystem was locked
