Hi Alban, thanks a lot for the information. However, I still can't enter
recovery mode or failsafeX. Whichever the boot line is, the procedure
just hangs. I guess my problem may be more complicated than just X
driver?

Hi Pals,
I found last night that my Lucid RC installation cannot boot and hangs
because one of my /etc/fstab entry evokes tmpfs. If that line is
commented out, then my upgraded installation can boot normally as a new
installation.
So I will open a new bug to address the tmpfs issue, and I guess
As for me, the RC live CD image downloaded this morning (GMT 2:00 AM
4/24) CAN boot into KDE desktop (although the bootsplash is an ugly
Ubuntu 10.04 text) on my Lenovo S10-2 netbook (with Intel GMA 950).
However, 10.04 upgraded from 9.10 still fails to boot. Clean
installation boots fine.

Strange thing, FYI, is that my clean install of 10.04 RC can boot.
Upgraded installation from 9.10 hangs forever.

It's impossible to reach the recovery mode of such installation, so I have
installed a clean installation on another partition, and chroot into the buggy

dpkg-reconfigure xserver-xorg

Hi Attila, is your 10.04 RC installed via live session, or upgraded from

FYI, I can't boot into 2.6.32-21 recovery mode, it's also stucked.
I guess you can confirm again if you are reporting from 2.6.31-19/20 or
2.6.32-21, since they make big difference.
For me 2.6.31-20 seems to be problematic too.

Hi alex, I have added the PPA as you told, however the 2.11 driver
depends on libdrm-intel1 = 2.4.18+git, which is not available. Did you
also encountered this warning, or did you just ignored it and
Adding i915.modeset=1 to the boot line does no help either. 2.6.32-21
and 2.6.31-20 both fails. Recovery mode won't get through either.
I'm wondering if I can ever get my old installation back, or should I
just use this new installation. But it really feels bad. I should not

Hi, what if there is not a xorg.conf (I don't have it since Karmic)? Is
there a way to make the system generate one so that I can make the
changes you mentioned?

Uh... I should take back my comment on #28, because my memory is wrong.
Eee PC 701 Synaptics touchpad did not have two-finger scrolling and
tapping, and I had only edge scrolling (vertical and horizontal), and
hard buttons (left and right). It was last last year, and it was my last
last netbook,
Lenovo S10-2 netbook affected too.

Are these bugs from the Linux Synaptics driver itself, or if the
touchpads really don't support multi-finger tapping and scrolling?

I remember using Eee PC 701 with a Synaptics touchpad, and two-finger
scrolling and tapping worked then (with Ubuntu 7.10, 8.04, and Mandriva
2009.0). On Eee PC 901 with an Elantech touchpad, such functions worked
too.
