Timo,
Please forgive me if I am procedurally incorrect in going about this, as this
is my first interaction on Launchpad; but if I get a question or two answered,
I will be able to better contribute to this situation, as well as any others
that arise.
First, here is what I believe to be relevant information about my current setup:

*System__3.2.0-32-generic #51-Ubuntu SMP Wed Sep 26 21:33:09 UTC 2012 x86_64
x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
*PC Model__HP Notebook 2000-369WM
*AMD E-450 APU with Radeon(tm) HD Graphics × 2
>>More info can, and would glady be provided, but at the moment, I've only
>>included what I know to relevant.

Now, from all that I read about my PC; CPU/GPU; and display--I have nothing
made by/related to Intel on my setup. But yesterday, I recieved an update
notification for "xserver-xorg-video-intel update"*Installed version:
2:2.17.0-1ubuntu4.1* --of which I already have the previous version installed(I
wasn't aware of this package).
Is this update for everyone, regardless of Intel architechure or not? I had
some "purple screen" issues on startup recently, where anytime I restarted or
powered-on in general, the boot-up process would never make it to the login
screen, but rather, it would remain showing a blank, purple screen after the
Ubuntu logo had flashed on-screen. It would eventually work after abruptly
shutting off the computer, and powering on again; sometimes taking several
tries. I am trying to avoid the possibility of this again, and even if that is
unrelated, I want to know if this package is meant/safe to be installed on AMD
architectures.
If it is, I'd be happy to provide results. I would just need to know what kind
of info to provide upon installation--again..if this is even necessary. I have
a Nvidia package in Updates that I've never installed for similar reasons, and
this situation could help clarify others like it.
I am not new to Ubuntu/Linux, however I *am* new to using it as a development
environment. With all that I've put into the setup, after ridding the machine
of Windows 7, I am a bit overly-cautious about the updates I accept; at least
until I grow more comfortable/familiar with the packages I'm encountering, and
which ones are worth accepting.

Thank you for your contributions to the open-source community. I look forward
to giving back in the future, when I am more qualified to do so.
 Nick
