I've tried the driver from ppa:glasen/intel-driver on two identical
machines with i845 (from Memory - not at them at present). One seems to
now work fine and can even run Blender without crashing (which would
instantly previously). It has the server kernel (server + gnome-
desktop).

This particular machine is a server install with the Ubuntu-Desktop meta
package added. However I have seen this happen on another identical
machine with a plain Desktop install.

Computer randomly after awhile seems to almost shutdown, the video
flickers and then constantly retries to start. The computer is still
running, and I am able to ssh into it. Upon ssh'ing in - it tells me
there are 0 users logged in, so I guess the
After some more testing - I have found using xrandr from the command
line to adjust the resolution upwards, does not affect the mouse pointer
visibility. So a temporary fix is to make a script, and perhaps a make
a launcher from the panel, or menu.

My eeePC 900 running Lucid does not suffer this problem - leading me to
believe it might be some how hardware (graphics) related - perhaps a
unique code path, or something failing, preventing the pointer being
'unhidden'. Thats just my programming intuitive guess however.
