Public bug reported:
On upgrade from 14.04 to 14.10, libgl1-mesa-glx:amd64 caused everything
to fail. What I did to fix was run:
sudo dpkg --force-all --configure libgl1-mesa-glx
but it gave me an error that it couldn't delete /etc/ati because it was
a directory. Deleted that directory, tried

with 295.33
If I switch to a console quick enough, I can avoid the freeze, but it
still has a terrible time refreshing the display - top, for example,
shows itself as using 30-50% of the CPU!

Given all the warnings about borking Ubuntu by installing nvidia website
drivers (and the fact that I tried it and ended up borking Ubuntu), I'm
not sure if that is such sound advice...

1.0.2+git20100830+c935c60-0ubuntu0sarvatt
nvidia-current (256.53-0ubuntu2) to 260.19.04-0ubuntu0~xup2
nvidia-current-modaliases
Can confirm the turning off subpixel smoothing fix here as well, though
the fonts don't look as good :)
