A clean install is fine if I don't take updates. If I do take the
updates and reboot then I get heavy video corruption. This just started

This bug still happening in 32 bit mode my original post #39. Haven't
used the machine for 5 days as it has been unusable, freezing after a
few minutes. Decided to try again & downloaded the latest updates and
the #%^&* thing froze during the install process so it doesn't appear to
be related to
I have the same problem with the 32 Bit version.
Frequent random lockups, the only thing that will work is the mouse cursor,
hard reset to recover.
The problem has also occurred during normal shutdown and system hangs and
needs to be powered off to shutdown.
Have been forced to go back to Win
Clean installation with all updates of 11.04 on Dell XPS M1330 laptop
with nVidia 8400GS produces the same "activated but not in use" video
driver issue...Compiz will not work, but able to use Unity.

Having the same problem. I tried reinstalling most of the various X11
packages related to fonts, but it did not help.
